WeROne

Statement of Purpose:

The WeROne Organization is a non-profit organization that dedicates its time to the equal rights of all LGBT+ members. My service will provide individuals in the LGBT community with a safe environment to talk, counseling, housing, food to eat, and so much more. This service will be the place for those who need someone to lean on and supporting one another. There will be protests every weekend, because each protest makes a big difference. Not every member has to participate in the protest every week, but it would be greatly appreciated if everybody came together and fight for the same thing that we all want. This service also reaches out to different communities and shares their stories with those who would like to listen. Hearing each others’ stories might open the eyes of people and join us in this fight for equality. We are stronger together than we are apart.

Resources:

To create a non-profit service, you would need a bunch of resources. For me in particular, I would need to contact different LGBT organizations like the NOH8 campaign, ACT UP, and the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce to see who could partner up. Networking with other organizations shows that we don’t stand alone and we share the same drive. I know that running an organization isn’t an easy job. I would need to recruit a lot of people. Also, I need to build my brand. In order to provide people a service, you need to voice out what your service is. I could reach out to communities and basically get the word out that there’s a place for LGBT+ members to reach out. The biggest challenge for most new nonprofits is to develop and maintain reliable income streams. Being a non-profit organization makes the source of income harder. Most experts agree less than half of nonprofit startups survive beyond five years. Of those that survive, perhaps one-third are in financial distress. I would have to find a way to keep my organization up and running for longer than 5 years, knowing the circumstances and what could happen to non-profit organizations.
